Challenge
GPs across London relied on several outdated 'A–Z' systems to access clinical information and services during 10-minute patient consultations. The process was slow, difficult to navigate, and made it impossible for doctors to quickly find vital pathways and relevant services to refer patients into. A new solution was needed to provide fast, reliable access to relevant information.

Solution
We worked with NHS stakeholders and frontline clinicians to understand the challenges of accessing clinical information digitally as part of primary care. Through user research, live consultation observations, and workshops, we gained first-hand insight into the pressures GPs face and the shortcomings of existing systems. An audit of content and infrastructure, supported by a large-scale card sorting exercise, enabled us to design a clinical topic-based hierarchy that reflects the way clinicians naturally discover, search for and use information.
On this foundation, we designed and built a website centred around these new clinical topics, making it easier for users to navigate large volumes of content. The new interface was modern and straightforward, while the search system, powered by ElasticSearch with fuzzy logic, weighted keywords, and browsing history recognition—ensured clinicians could find essential guidance quickly. We developed this system as a SaaS platform so that it could be easily rolled out across multiple clinical commissioning groups in England.

Results
The platform launched across four London clinical commissioning groups in 2016 and continues to run successfully. It is responsive, secure, and widely adopted by healthcare professionals, who describe it as "life-changing" in clinical settings. Doctors can now locate the information they need with just a few keystrokes, transforming the efficiency of patient consultations. The platform's design and architecture earned industry recognition, winning a UKUX Award for Information Architecture.
